📋 Step 2: Check for HSE Pre-Approval

• Day-Case / Outpatient Care: Treatments where you leave on the same day generally do not require pre-approval.

• ⚠️ Inpatient Care (Overnight Stays): If your procedure requires staying in a hospital bed overnight, you must apply for HSE Prior Authorisation before traveling to guarantee your refund eligibility.

💳 Step 3: Receive Care & Keep Every Receipt

After your treatment, ensure you collect all required documentation before leaving the clinic:

1. An itemized invoice in English detailing every procedure.

2. Official proof of payment (stamped receipts or bank statements).

3. A signed medical discharge report from your surgeon.

🇬🇧 A Quick Note on Northern Ireland

Following Brexit, Northern Ireland is no longer part of the EU Directive. However, Irish residents can use the dedicated Northern Ireland Planned Healthcare Scheme (NIPHS) to access private hospitals in Belfast or Derry under almost identical refund rules.
